State Of Chill contains 1300 mg of organic Ashwagandha Root which is an adaptogen containing numerous bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, and steroidal lactones (1)(2). Ashwagandha Root or Withania somnifera has been extensively used in traditional ayurvedic medicine because of its potent antioxidant and inflammation-supporting properties (3). Studies have shown that Ashwagandha supplementation may aid with stress, improve cognition, cardiovascular performance, and reproductive health (4)(5)(6).
A meta-analysis of 62 abstracts found the majority of qualifying studies found greater score improvements than placebo in regards to stress (7). For example, a clinical trial found that Ashwagandha was a safe and effective adjunct therapy for those with enhanced levels of stress (8). Another study showed that a daily dose of only 240 mg of Ashwagandha promoted a healthy response to the stress hormone cortisol (4)(6).
Ashwagandha has other scientifically proven effects such as enhanced cognition, increased energy, and weight management. A randomized placebo-controlled study found that a 300mg dose of Ashwagandha for 90 days led to improved memory, focus and psychological well-being (9). A clinical animal trial found that Ashwagandha supplementation increased oxygen consumption and enhanced mitochondrial activity in brown fat and skeletal muscle, leading to enhanced energy expenditure (10). In human trials, those supplementing with ashwagandha had improvements in fatigue and vigor (11). Lastly, a study found that Ashwagandha supplementation by chronically stressed overweight individuals enhanced metabolism (12).
